5 x B&F Rohan “Wombat” Walmsley

Ahead of our games this week we look at the career of another of our club greats. Rohan “Wombat” Walmsley who has five club Best & Fairest’s to his name. A feat only bettered in 136 years by ex Tiger and Hawk Stan Ogden.

James Nicolas – “Wombat is as good as any midfielder I have seen at the club.I have not seen one better. Able to get his own ball, he is also a wonderful finisher and tough as nails. He is “a good driver in heavy traffic.” When he gets that stare in his eyes, look out. Wombat has always been able to push forward take a strong grab and is an excellent set shot for goal.

Rohan WalmsleyHe is in my view Canterbury’s Luke Hodge, such is the esteem he is held in. Was unlucky to miss the 2008 GF through injury, and we all know what happened in 2015.

It also should be remembered that in his prime could have easily gone to more successful clubs and got paid more dough. He stayed loyal to the Cobras through thick and thin. I have no doubt that any of our superstars of the past would have loved having this bloke take the field with them. Footy is a team game and good teams set team goals, but if ever there was a player that his teammates dug deep, and gave that extra effort to see he gets more finals under his belt, it is this player.

A man’s man, a Gentleman and a superstar for the Canterbury FC. The Battaaaaaa!!!!”
