The Canterbury FC senior women’s team has finished the 2019 home and away season in fourth position in Premier C, making finals for the first time in the clubs history, after rising through the ranks from their beginnings in Division 4 just two years ago.
After a tough first few rounds facing off against some very strong opposition, the Cobra’s season success looked in doubt. Some extremely hard work and resilience by the players led by the strong leadership team of Pippa Simon, Paige Mercer and Laura McMullin saw the side win 8 out of their last 12 games. This including a particularly memorable upset win in round 10, against ladder leader Old Yarra Grammarians.
The squad has battled hard in the face of injuries to key players, suffering a particularly unlucky run towards the end of the season, but still found ways to step up and perform in the face of serious adversity.
With finals at the door, the team is focused at training this week on the task at hand, especially seeing how far they can progress into finals for the first time ever.
