Life membership is the highest honour the Canterbury Cobras can bestow upon one of its own. It recognises those who have given exceptional service — on the field, off the field, or both — and whose contribution has helped shape the club into what it is today.

Eligibility

To be considered for life membership, a nominee must have given an absolute minimum of ten years of service to the Canterbury Cobras. This may be as a player, committee member, volunteer, or any combination thereof. The norm for life membership is closer to twelve to fifteen years, and nominations at or near the ten-year minimum are expected to reflect service of a genuinely extraordinary nature.

Off-field contributions are considered equally valid to playing contributions. Where a nominee has a playing history, this will be taken into account alongside any off-field service. The committee will always consider the full breadth of a nominee's contribution — the nature, consistency, and impact of their service — rather than applying a fixed formula.

Players who are unable to complete a season due to injury are expected to contribute in an off-field capacity for the remainder of that year for it to count toward their years of service. Off-field roles must be served for the full year.
