As we progress looking at some of our great players, this week we move to more recent times with Dale Fleming.
Son of club life member Pat Fleming, and the younger brother of life members and players, Mark & Ross, Dale played in our juniors, later playing in our seniors before being picked up by Hawthorn U19s in 1989.
In 1992, he was traded to Fitzroy playing 13 senior games including 5 goals against Sydney at the SCG. He moved to Norwood SANFL in 1994. Kicked 40 goals in his first season under coach Neil Craig. Moved to defence he became one of the best Full Backs playing two state games and a premiership in 1997.
Dale returned to Canterbury in 2003. Kicking 14 in his first game back at the Snake Pit suggested he would be a handy player. He kicked 71 goals coming into the Grand final and kicked 6 on the day with Canterbury breaking a flag drought that went back to 1991. It is fair to say Dale will come under strong consideration for our greatest team ever!
