Canterbury’s first game of the year certainly didn’t disappoint the people that were watching, though it may have gave the coaches higher than usual blood pressure! In a see-sawing game that saw neither team able to extend their lead beyond a couple of goals, early in the last quarter Parkside took the ascendency to make the margin 4 goals. Canterbury weren’t done though, and 5 last quarter goals from Scott “Fridge” Fitzgerald sealed the win by a solitary point.
In the earlier game, Canterbury were far too strong for Parkside, running out easy winners with the result never in doubt after quarter time. Up until that point, the Cobras kicked eight goals while keeping Parkside scoreless. It wasn’t too long ago Canterbury were on the other end of scores like that, let’s hope Parkside can find their feet after rejoining the VAFA.
Stay tuned for complete match reports on both games in the coming days.
